The Supreme Court will hear on Monday a petition related to the demolition campaign to remove the illegal construction allegedly made near Krishna Janmabhoomi in Mathura district of Uttar Pradesh. According to Monday’s cause list uploaded on the apex court’s website, the petition will be heard by a bench of Justice Aniruddha Bose, Justice Sanjay Kumar, and Justice SVN Bhatti. This case is related to the demolition of settlements near Krishna Janmabhoomi.

During the hearing in this matter on 16 August, the Supreme Court had stayed the demolition drive of the railway officials for 10 days. The drive was allegedly launched to remove illegal constructions. The court issued notice to the Center and others on the plea of petitioner Yakub Shah and sought a response.

After this, the matter again reached the apex court on August 25, but the court refused to extend the period mentioned in the interim order. The petitioner’s lawyer told the top court on August 16 that 100 houses were bulldozed. He said that this exercise was done on the day when the courts of Uttar Pradesh were closed.
