NEW DELHI: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday got back his bungalow in the national capital, a day after he was reinstated as a member of the Lok Sabha.

When asked for a reaction on getting back his official residence, Rahul Gandhi said: “Mera ghar poora Hindustan hai. (All of India is my home).”

Sources said Gandhi has received the letter re-allotting the same house he occupied as Lok Sabha member for the past almost two decades.

They said Gandhi would be shifting back to his residence soon. He is currently staying with his mother Sonia Gandhi, who is also the chairperson of the Congress Parliamentary Party.

On Monday, Rahul Gandhi’s membership of Lower House was restored by Speaker Om Birla. This was after the Supreme Court had stayed his conviction in the “Modi surname” case.

Rahul Gandhi was disqualified from Lok Sabha on March 24 after a Surat court convicted him in a defamation case for a speech made in 2019 during an election rally in Karnataka’s Kolar.

In his speech, Rahul had said: “How come all thieves have Modi as the common surname?” The court sentenced Rahul to two years in jail, which was the maximum punishment in the case and subsequently led to his disqualification as member of Parliament.

After his disqualification, Rahul had to vacate his official bungalow at 12, Tughlaq Lane.
