Rahul Gandhi gets back his bungalow in New Delhi

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has regained possession of his official bungalow in the national capital after being reinstated as a member of the Lok Sabha. This comes a day after his membership of the Lower House was restored by Speaker Om Birla, following a stay on his conviction by the Supreme Court in the “Modi surname” case.

Rahul Gandhi’s reaction

When asked about getting back his official residence, Rahul Gandhi stated, “Mera ghar poora Hindustan hai” (My home is the whole of India).

The defamation case and disqualification

Rahul Gandhi was disqualified from the Lok Sabha on March 24 after a Surat court convicted him in a defamation case related to a speech made during an election rally in Karnataka’s Kolar in 2019. In the speech, Rahul had remarked, “How come all thieves have Modi as the common surname?” The court sentenced him to two years in jail, leading to his disqualification as a member of Parliament.

Loss of official bungalow

Following his disqualification, Rahul Gandhi had to vacate his official bungalow. However, with his reinstatement as a member of the Lok Sabha, he has now regained possession of the residence.
