Delhi on High Alert as Yamuna River Water Level Crosses Danger Mark
Delhi News: The danger of floods has once again increased in the country’s capital, Delhi. The water level of the Yamuna River has risen and crossed the danger mark, putting Delhi on high alert. Delhi Police announced on Monday that traffic has been closed on one lane of Vikas Marg from ITO to Laxmi Nagar due to ongoing work on the Yamuna river.
Laxmi Nagar Traffic Disrupted from ITO
Delhi Police shared information on Twitter, urging people to plan their journeys accordingly. They stated, “Due to the ongoing work on the Yamuna river, one-lane traffic is affected on Vikas Marg in the carriageway from ITO to Laxmi Nagar.” Commuters coming from W Point will not be allowed to turn right from 5 pm to 9 pm. Instead, they can take a U-turn from the express cut for Laxmi Nagar.
Water Being Released from Hathinikund Barrage
The water level of the Yamuna river has risen again due to heavy rains in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh and the subsequent release of water from the Hathinikund barrage. This may hinder relief and rehabilitation work in low-lying flood-affected areas in Delhi. The Delhi government is on high alert as more than two lakh cusecs of water has been released from the Hathinikund barrage into the Yamuna river. On July 13, the water level had reached a record 208.66 meters.
