He was posthumously awarded the Kirti Chakra for his bravery in foiling the Pakistani army’s attempt to infiltrate terrorists into Indian soil.
Maphou Village: The Last Remaining Village in the Block
Maphou village is the only village remaining in its block, as all the other nine villages have been razed to the ground. The attackers burned down half of Maphou village and destroyed almost 50 houses. However, thanks to the timely intervention of the BSF, the remaining houses have been protected.
A Father’s Account of the Attack
Tongjang Guite, the father of Sub-inspector Paotinsat Guite, described the attack on the village. Around 1,000 armed men dressed in black attacked the village, burning down nine other villages before targeting Maphou. The women, children, and elderly residents had already been evacuated to safety. The BSF rushed in and drove away the attackers, but the damage had already been done.
Martyr’s Widow Hopes for Normalcy
Hoineilhing Guite, the widow of Sub-inspector Paotinsat Guite, is proud of her husband’s sacrifice and has accepted his loss. She is currently in Mizoram with her two daughters for their education. However, she hopes that normalcy will return soon so that she can fulfill her plan of erecting a memorial for her husband in their village.
The Bravery of Sub-inspector Paotinsat Guite
Sub-inspector Paotinsat Guite graduated from BSF Academy Tekanpur in Gwalior in 2019 and joined the 59 Battalion at Rajouri. He was killed in action on his first posting at the 3 Bump Forward Post. Despite being grievously wounded, he exhibited raw courage and successfully neutralized one of the terrorists. He was posthumously declared dead by a medical officer.
