The Supreme Court Collegium, on July 5, recommended the appointment of Justice Devendra Upadhyaya of the Allahabad High Court as the Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court. The collegium took into account Justice Upadhyaya’s eleven years of experience in delivering justice and the need for representation of the Allahabad High Court among the Chief Justices.
Justice Upadhyaya’s appointment comes after the retirement of former Chief Justice RD Dhanuka, which created a vacancy on May 30, 2023.
