The Delhi University Teachers’ Association (AMBASSADOR) and the Delhi University Principals’ Association (DUPA) have expressed their concern over the delayed and insufficient release of maintenance grants by the University Grants Commission (UGC) to colleges. This delay in releasing the grants has caused anxiety among the university community as the salaries of teaching and non-teaching employees have been delayed. The associations have highlighted that around 53 Delhi University colleges are dependent on the UGC for grants-in-aid.
In a meeting held on July 18, the delay in grants was discussed by the two associations. They stated that this issue requires immediate attention from the UGC. The associations have informed that the expenditure of colleges is duly communicated through the annual budget estimates submitted to the UGC, yet the grant-in-aid is not released in a timely manner. They have urged the UGC to resume the practice of releasing quarterly grants to address this issue.
Additionally, the associations have expressed concerns over the UGC’s request for details on grants given to colleges in the last ten years. They believe that this request is causing unwarranted uncertainty as the colleges have already submitted their annual audited accounts, which are available with the UGC.
In light of these concerns, the Delhi University Teachers’ Association (AMBASSADOR) and the Delhi University Principals’ Association (DUPA) have appealed to the Union ministries of education and finance to intervene and address the delayed and inadequate release of maintenance grants by the UGC to colleges.
