The incident occurred in the Purana Sutiyana area, falling under the jurisdiction of Ecotech 3 police station.
According to officials, the girl’s father, Sudarshan Bairagi, an ayurvedic doctor, had left for his clinic in Sector 93 in the morning, accompanied by his wife and their younger child, leaving their 14-year-old daughter, Shilpi, alone at home.
Upon returning around 1.30pm, they found Shilpi lying on the bed, with a cloth tied around her neck and blood oozing from her mouth. She was immediately taken to a nearby hospital but did not survive, said deputy commissioner of police (Central Noida) Anil Kumar Yadav.
Bairagi told the police that he had recently sold a property, yielding approximately Rs 23.50 lakh, which he had kept at home, in addition to the Rs 1.50 lakh he already had.
The investigation took a crucial turn when Bairagi expressed suspicion about a man from his village who had been a frequent visitor to their house. Apparently, the suspect had inquired that morning about the timing of their departure for the clinic and their expected return. Based on this suspicion, the police took the man into custody for questioning. He is known to the family.
