The last date for filing Income Tax Return (ITR) for the assessment year 2023-24 is July 31. Although many income tax payers believe that the government will extend the last date, but Revenue Secretary Sanjay Malhotra said that the government is not taking any such step.
Income tax filing process going on fast
The Revenue Secretary has urged the income tax payers to file their income tax returns at the earliest. He has expressed hope that this year more income tax will be filed than last year. So far 2.50 crore ITRs have been filed, which is more than last year.
ITR Filing: Current Status
According to the e-filing portal of the Income Tax Department, till date 11,30,85,146 individual users have registered, and 2,61,07,869 income tax returns have been filed. Out of these, 2,40,69,116 returns have been verified and the Income Tax Department has processed 1,12,91,905 returns.
Income tax returns are being filled with freshness
There is a lot of enthusiasm among taxpayers towards filing income tax this year. This year, by July 11, 2 crore people had filed their ITR, which is quicker than last year.
