NEW DELHI: The Congress on Sunday declared its opposition to the Centre’s ordinance on the control of services in Delhi. The party’s general secretary, KC Venugopal, stated that the Congress will resist any attempt by the central government to “sabotage federalism” in the country. He further emphasized that the party will not tolerate any interference by the Centre in states ruled by opposition parties through the governors. The Congress has decided to oppose the Delhi ordinance in Parliament whenever a bill is introduced.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP and national spokesperson Raghav Chadha welcomed the Congress’ unequivocal opposition to the ordinance, describing it as a positive development. The AAP had previously stated that it would join the opposition meeting in Bengaluru if the Congress extended its support to the AAP in opposing the Delhi ordinance in Parliament.

The ordinance aims to establish a National Capital Civil Service Authority for the transfer and disciplinary proceedings against Group-A officers from the DANICS cadre. Prior to the Supreme Court’s May 11 verdict, the transfer and postings of all officers of the Delhi government were under the executive control of the lieutenant governor.
