Aadhaar Card
Aadhaar card has become an essential document for every Indian citizen. It contains a unique 12-digit identification number issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). The UIDAI has developed four different formats for Aadhaar cards to provide convenience to the people.
1. Aadhaar Letter
Aadhaar Letter is a paper-based laminated letter that contains a secure QR code with the date of issue and date of print. It is provided free of cost for new Aadhaar registrations and necessary biometric updates. In case of loss or damage, a replacement Aadhaar Letter can be ordered online from the UIDAI website for a fee of Rs. 50.
2. Aadhaar PVC Card
Aadhaar PVC Card is made of PVC material, making it lightweight and durable. It includes various security elements, a digitally signed Aadhaar secure QR code, a photograph, and demographic information. The Aadhaar PVC Card is sent to the applicant’s address through speed post. It can also be obtained online from the UIDAI website by paying a fee of Rs. 50 using the Aadhaar number, Virtual ID, or Enrollment ID.
3. M Aadhaar
M Aadhaar is an official mobile application developed by UIDAI. It allows Aadhaar number holders to carry their Aadhaar records registered with CIDR on their mobile phones. The record includes the Aadhaar number, demographic data, photograph, and a secure QR code for offline verification. M Aadhaar is available for download at no cost and is recognized as a valid ID proof by airports and railways. It can also be used for eKYC purposes.
4. E Aadhaar
E Aadhaar is the electronic form of Aadhaar, which is password protected and contains a secure QR code for offline verification. It is digitally signed by UIDAI and can be obtained from the official UIDAI website using the registered mobile number. Each Aadhaar enrollment or update generates an e Aadhaar, which can be downloaded for free. E Aadhaar is considered as valid as a physical copy for all purposes.
Conclusion
These four formats of Aadhaar cards, namely Aadhaar Letter, Aadhaar PVC Card, E Aadhaar, and M Aadhaar, provide flexibility and convenience to Indian citizens. Whether it is a paper-based laminated letter, a PVC card, a mobile application, or an electronic form, the Aadhaar card remains a vital identification document for various government and private works.
