Coimbatore DIG of Police Commits Suicide at Camp Office
– Deputy Inspector General of Police (Coimbatore range), C Vijayakumar, shot himself dead with a pistol at his camp office in Race Course, Coimbatore.
– Vijayakumar went for a walk in the morning and returned to his office asking his personal security officer (PSO) to hand over his pistol.
– He shot himself around 6.50am, and other officers at the camp office immediately informed senior police officers.
– Vijayakumar had reportedly been suffering from severe depression and had trouble sleeping for the past few weeks.
– The reason for his suicide is yet to be determined.
– The body has been sent for postmortem at Coimbatore Medical College Hospital.
– Vijayakumar took charge as the DIG of Police, Coimbatore range, on January 6, 2023, replacing MS Muthusamy.
– He was a 2009 batch IPS officer and had previously served in various districts including Kancheepuram, Cuddalore, Nagapattinam, and Tiruvarur.
– He was promoted to the rank of DIG and posted in the Coimbatore range.
