Punjab Government Confirms Jobs of 14,239 Teachers
The Punjab cabinet, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, has approved the regularization of services of 14,239 teachers in order to strengthen the education sector. The decision to confirm the jobs of these teachers was taken in a meeting of the Council of Ministers held at Mansa on Saturday. The cabinet has decided to regularize the jobs of teachers who have completed 10 years or more of service. Of these, 7,902 teachers have completed 10 years or more in service, while 6,337 have a gap in regular service due to unavoidable circumstances. These teachers will receive regular salary, allowances, and leave as per the government’s policy.
Other Decisions Taken by the Cabinet
Apart from regularizing the jobs of teachers, the cabinet has also approved the creation of 485 posts of house doctors and 1,445 posts of paramedics in the Department of Health and Family Welfare. This move aims to provide quality healthcare facilities to people at their doorstep and create new job opportunities for qualified doctors and paramedical staff.
Additionally, the cabinet approved the Punjab Banning of Unregulated Deposit Schemes Rules, 2023, to crack down on fraudulent financial institutions. The cabinet noted an increase in the number of financial establishments cheating the public, especially the middle class and the poor, by making impractical or unprofessional promises or offering extremely attractive rates of interest or rewards.
The cabinet also approved the acceptance of the recommendations of the Sixth Punjab Finance Commission from the financial year 2021-22 to 2025-26. This includes the devolution of 3.5% of the state’s net tax revenue to local bodies and Panchayati Raj institutions.
