AIIMS Researchers Study Science Behind Chanting of Mantras

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) has embarked on a research project to study the effects of mantra chanting on the body. The project, which is being led by the Department of Physiology, involves faculty members, research scholars, and senior doctors of the department chanting mantras for 10-15 minutes every day. The initial phase of the research involves the chanting of Gayatri Mantra and Om, two popular mantras in Hinduism.

Expansion of the Research

The researchers are using wireless physiology monitoring to measure the effects of chanting on the body. The sensors capture data on the activities happening in the body, which are then studied using other instruments. The initial results of the research are positive, according to the researchers.

The AIIMS administration is preparing to start a separate Department of Spirituality and Science to research the effects of other mantras. The department is expected to work in collaboration with other departments at AIIMS to improve the health of patients.

Special Clinics for Yoga and Meditation

During the launch of the ‘Swayam Yoga Credit’ course at AIIMS, its Director, Dr M Srinivas, announced that AIIMS would soon start specialized clinics for yoga and meditation. The clinics would work in collaboration with other departments to improve the health of patients.

Conclusion

The AIIMS project is a significant step towards understanding the science behind chanting. The project’s expansion to include other mantras could provide valuable insights into the effects of chanting on the body. The establishment of specialized clinics for yoga and meditation at AIIMS is a welcome move that could contribute to the overall well-being of patients.
