UP’s Share in Agriculture Increases from 7.2 to 9.2 Percent in a Decade: Agro-Forestry Report
The cultivation of fruits and vegetables is opening up new possibilities for farmers in Uttar Pradesh (UP), as confirmed by the Agro-forestry report of 2023. According to the report, the state’s share in fruit and vegetable cultivation has increased from 7.2 to 9.2 percent in the past decade. In the same sequence, Gross Value Output (GVO) from these crops has also increased from Rs 20.6 thousand crore to Rs 38,000 crore.
The UP government, under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has been promoting agricultural diversification and farming according to market demand. The government has been producing quality plants in the Center of Excellence and Mini Center of Excellence and giving them to the farmers at the lowest rate, while promoting protected cultivation by controlling tax and modernizing mandis.
The cultivation and processing of fruits and vegetables is an area of wide possibilities. That’s why the UP government is continuously giving every possible encouragement to their cultivation since its first term. Almost a year ago, after the formation of the government of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in the state for the second time in a row, an ambitious target regarding the expansion of the area of cultivation, increase in yield and processing of fruits was also put before the department. As per the target, the area under horticulture crops is to be increased from 11.6 to 16 percent by the year 2027, while food processing is to be increased from 6 to 20 percent.
To achieve these goals, the government is establishing Excellence Centre, Mini Excellence Center, or Hi-Tech Nursery in every district within the stipulated time period. Mini Centers of Excellence/Hi-Tech nurseries are also under construction at various locations. This type of infrastructure will be established in every district by the year 2027.
The cultivation of fruits and vegetables is an excellent opportunity for farmers in UP, and with the government’s support, they can increase their income and improve their standard of living.
