DelhiDesk India’s coal production has increased by 47% to 893.08 million tonnes in the last nine years, with supply reaching 877.74 million tonnes, according to the Ministry of Coal. The ministry has set a coal production target of 1,012 million tonnes by 2023-24 through the adoption of new technologies and increasing overall efficiency and sustainability. The ministry has also extended the deadline for bids under the seventh round of commercial coal auctions by 28 days until 27 June 2023. So far, 133 mines with a cumulative peak rated capacity of 540 million tonnes per annum have been allocated or auctioned.
