One such gang is operating in the name of Kaun Banega Crorepati, and sends messages claiming that the recipient has won a lottery. Victims are then asked to make a WhatsApp call to claim their prize, during which they are asked for bank information. If they give this information, they may receive an OTP code which allows the fraudsters to steal their money. The PIB Fact Check team has warned people to be wary of such calls and messages, and reminds them that bank officials never ask for personal information over the phone.
