DelhiDesk: The Delhi High Court has upheld the constitutional validity of an order passed by the Delhi government, which made it an essential condition for residents of the capital to become eligible to become civil defense volunteers. A Division Bench of Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela dismissed the petition challenging the March 18, 2015 order and said that while enrolling a person as a civil defense volunteer, the authorities are competent to issue necessary directions regarding the place of residence of the candidate. The authorities have been justified by including a condition regarding residence, and irrespective of whether a person from any part of the country is residing in Delhi and has one of the documents referred to in the order, they can become a volunteer.
