Kejriwal government has started preparations to deal with the problem of pollution arising due to different reasons in summer. Environment Minister Gopal Rai held a joint meeting at the Delhi Secretariat on Wednesday in connection with the Summer Action Plan. Nodal agencies were appointed at 16 points, assigning different responsibilities to the departments. All the departments have been instructed to submit their action plans and suggestions to the Environment Department within a week (April 20). Senior officers of the concerned departments were present in the meeting.
The Environment Minister said that an action plan will be prepared on the basis of suggestions and action plan received on 16 points. Talking to reporters after the meeting, he said that as a result of the Winter Action Plan implemented by the Kejriwal government during the winter season, there has been a steady decline in the presence of PM 10 and PM 2.5 in Delhi. According to the Economic Survey 2022-23, between 2016 and 2021, the number of days in Delhi’s air quality index (AQI) in good, satisfactory and moderate category has increased from 109 to 160.
The number of poor and very poor category days decreased from 217 to 196, while the number of dangerous category days also decreased from 26 to 6 during the same period. It is clear from this that due to the steps being taken in Delhi, there has been a reduction of 30 percent in the pollution level in the last 8 years.
