New Delhi – In a significant step toward improving urban transportation infrastructure, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has invited tenders for the construction of four new underground metro stations along the Green Line, as part of its upcoming extension project. This initiative aims to provide seamless connectivity to more areas in southwest Delhi, especially benefitting daily commuters and residential zones around Najafgarh.
The proposed stations will be built between Nangli and the Dhansa Bus Stand, helping complete the remaining portion of the Green Line Phase IV expansion. Once operational, the new stations will help reduce traffic congestion and offer a faster, eco-friendly commuting alternative.
Advanced Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) to Be Deployed for Construction
According to officials, the construction of the new underground section will utilize state-of-the-art Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs). The total tunnel length will span approximately 2 km, and the project includes cut-and-cover methods for station building. These advanced technologies aim to reduce surface disruptions and accelerate project timelines.
DMRC stated that this would be one of the most challenging phases due to the dense population and underground utilities in the area, but the work will be executed using environmentally sound and time-efficient techniques.
How Will It Benefit the Common Public?
Once completed, the extension will greatly enhance connectivity for residents of Najafgarh, Nangli, and Dhansa. Passengers will no longer have to depend on road-based transport to reach other parts of Delhi. Additionally, seamless transfers to other major metro lines will reduce overall travel time for thousands of daily commuters.
What is the Complete Plan?
The full plan includes the construction of four underground stations and associated tunnels. This project is part of Delhi Metro Phase IV, for which construction work is already underway at multiple locations. The Green Line extension is expected to be completed by 2024-end or early 2025, depending on site conditions and approvals.
DMRC has already submitted the Detailed Project Report (DPR) to the authorities, and funding approvals are expected soon. Once completed, the Green Line will play a crucial role in connecting western and southwestern Delhi to the main metro grid.
