Greater Noida – In a major infrastructure boost, the much-awaited interchange connecting Yamuna Expressway and Eastern Peripheral Expressway (KGP) near Jaganpur-Afzalpur has received a green light from the authorities. The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) announced that construction will begin soon, as the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has also initiated preparations for the project.

Timeline of the Project

The construction of the interchange, which started in 2023, faced several delays due to various issues, including a dispute over land and the cost of filling materials. The project, originally estimated to cost ₹122 crores, stalled when developers requested an additional ₹22 crores for soil costs. After months of waiting, the government has now approved the construction, and the project is expected to take one year to complete.

Background: Years of Delays and Challenges

The idea of connecting these two key expressways has been in the works since 2019, but disputes with farmers delayed progress for nearly four years. Although those issues were resolved in 2023, the contractor’s demand for additional funds halted the work again. Finally, after discussions between YEIDA and NHAI, the path is now clear for construction to resume.

Expressway Loop 2 Mega Expressway Going To Connect. 8 Loops With 6.6 Km Length Planned.

Benefits of the Interchange

Currently, vehicles traveling from the KGP Expressway toward Agra face a 15-20 km detour due to the lack of a direct link with the Yamuna Expressway. This also leads to traffic congestion at Pari Chowk and Kasna. The new interchange will make travel smoother and reduce the travel distance, allowing for seamless movement between the two expressways.

The interchange will feature eight loops spread across 6.6 km, with four loops for vehicles to ascend and four for vehicles to descend, ensuring traffic moves freely without the risk of jams at the junction.
