What’s inside: East Delhi will get 18 new bus routes identified through route rationalisation. Major starts are from East Vinod Nagar and Shastri Park depots with a push for electric buses.

Delhi has completed a route rationalisation exercise with the help of IIT Delhi for the trans-Yamuna region. The work has identified 18 new bus routes intended to improve connectivity to industrial areas and metro stations.

Of these, 11 routes are planned from the East Vinod Nagar depot and four from the Shastri Park depot. Several additional routes have been examined from Ghazipur and other depots to serve growing clusters in the area.

The effort is part of a wider plan to make DTC services more environment-friendly and convenient. Authorities also indicated a push to deploy a large number of electric buses, targeting thousands of units to expand the city’s clean fleet.

The new routes aim to reduce waiting time, curb traffic load and strengthen last-mile mobility for dense neighbourhoods. Links to metro stations, business parks and industrial estates have been prioritised in the mapping.

Implementation will be staged, with route notifications to follow. Passenger information will be issued by the transport department once timings and stoppages are finalised depot-wise.

Summary:
  • 18 new bus routes identified for East Delhi.
  • 11 routes from East Vinod Nagar depot; four from Shastri Park.
  • Exercise done with IIT Delhi for route rationalisation.
  • Plan includes a major push for electric buses.
  • Focus on last-mile links to metro and industrial areas.
