Every day in Gurugram, road accidents occur while crossing the road, resulting in loss of lives. Despite the construction of large flyovers and elevated flyovers, the Gurugram Road Safety Committee has not done anything significant for pedestrians in its monthly meetings. Claims are made each time that steps are being taken to prevent road accidents, but little attention is paid to the issues causing accidents involving pedestrians or road crossers.

In the wake of increasing accidents involving pedestrians crossing roads in Gurugram, the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has now decided to build 11 foot overbridges (FOBs) across the city to ensure the safety of pedestrians. The plan for constructing 11 FOBs in Gurugram is now underway. These FOBs will be completed in three phases.

The first phase will see the construction of FOBs near the Sheetla Mata Mandir, next to Sector-14 Market on MG Road, and near the Maruti Industrial Area on Old Delhi Road.

In the second phase, FOBs will be built in front of Sahara Mall on MG Road, near the Medanta Hospital in Sector-39, and in front of the Millennium City Center Metro Station near Fortis Hospital exit gate. These FOBs will make it easier for pedestrians to cross the highway safely.

Additionally, four FOBs will be built on Sohna Elevated Road. Currently, there is no provision for pedestrians to safely cross the Mumbai Elevated Highway, which starts from Rajiv Chowk. Although an elevated highway was constructed at great cost, the convenience and safety of pedestrians were neglected. To address this, GMDA has planned to construct four FOBs on Sohna Road to facilitate the safe crossing of pedestrians.

Golf Course Road already has a plan in place for FOBs. To prevent accidents at potential locations, GMDA has already prepared a plan for foot overbridges (FOBs) on Golf Course Road. Four FOBs will be built at locations including Bristol Chowk, Chakkarpur Village, Paras Down Town, and near the Time Center.

These initiatives aim to enhance pedestrian safety and ease the process of road crossing, addressing a long-standing concern in Gurugram.
