Lawyer shot dead in Ghaziabad court complex

A lawyer was shot dead by two assailants in his chambers in the tehsil court complex in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad district, police said on Wednesday.

The incident took place around 2pm when the lawyer, Manoj Chowdhary alias Monu Jaat, was having lunch in his chambers. Two assailants entered the room and fired at him, causing his death on the spot.

After the shooting, a police team arrived at the scene with forensic experts. The body of the deceased lawyer was sent for post-mortem after completing the legal formalities.

The police are obtaining CCTV footage from cameras installed on the court premises to aid in the investigation of the case.

At the time of the attack, other lawyers were holding a meeting to discuss a strike called by bar associations in western Uttar Pradesh in support of their colleagues in Hapur.

Further details about the motive behind the attack and the identities of the assailants are yet to be revealed. The police are working on various leads to apprehend the culprits.
