UP government to introduce M sand policy to overcome sand shortage

The Uttar Pradesh government, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, is set to introduce a new policy in view of rapid urbanization and large-scale construction activities. The demand for sand has increased in recent times due to construction activities, but sand shortage is a problem affecting many countries including India. The UP government is going to bring M-Sand policy to encourage the use of manufactured sand to overcome this problem.

On Wednesday, the officials in the Directorate of Geology and Mining held an in-depth discussion with various stakeholders regarding the draft of the policy. A presentation has also been given by the directorate regarding the sand policy, while many suggestions have been given by the stakeholders regarding the policy. The final draft will be prepared after considering the suggestions of the stakeholders, following which it will be sent to the cabinet for approval.

According to Roshan Jacob, secretary and director of the mining department, after studying the policy of many states of the country, the government has prepared a draft M sand policy. The demand for M sand has increased due to the increase in the prices of sand across the country. Along with this, in view of the option of sand to the rivers in future, the Uttar Pradesh government wants to implement it through policy. The main objective of making this policy is to supply sand in future.

The Uttar Pradesh government led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will try to get M Sand industry status through this policy so that the benefits available under MSME can be provided. Various suggestions have been received from the stakeholders regarding this policy. Talking about the first suggestion in this, subsidy should also be provided for converting the crusher plant into M sand plant. The same, the second suggestion is that river sand should be banned at some places on a trial basis.

Thirdly, royalty is less in other states, so attention should be paid to higher royalty in Uttar Pradesh. Fourthly, the state government will promote M sand as an alternative to sand.

In conclusion, the M sand policy is a much-needed step to overcome the sand shortage problem in Uttar Pradesh. The government’s efforts to get M Sand industry status through this policy will provide the necessary benefits to the MSME sector.
