Railways Increase Wages for Porters in Delhi Stations
New Delhi ★Railways has increased the wages of porters working at all the railway stations of Delhi. After almost seven years, the wages have been increased by 40 percent.
Earlier the remuneration for transportation of 40 kg goods was fixed at Rs 100, which has now been increased to Rs 140. Divisional Commercial Manager Ravindrapreet Kaur has issued orders to all the stations of Delhi Division regarding this. The wages of licensed porters working at all the railway stations of Delhi Division have been increased. Instructions have also been given to install new price list boards at all stations.
The increased wages will also be applicable to stations like Panipat, Faridabad, Ghaziabad, and Panipat. Last week, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi met with the porters at Anand Vihar station, where they raised concerns about not receiving wage increases and uniforms for many years. Following this, the railway officials issued this order. Sources indicate that a decision on providing new uniforms to the porters is expected soon. However, there is no information yet on other wage increases.
‘New list not yet installed at stations’
Railway officials had instructed the implementation of the new wages from September 27, but most of the porters are still unaware of this. Porter Kripa at New Delhi Railway Station stated that he is currently transporting goods at the old price and has not received any information about the wage increase.
