Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya and Bihar Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav Engage in Twitter War over AIIMS Construction in Darbhanga

Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya and Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav were involved in a war of words on X (formerly Twitter) regarding the construction of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Darbhanga. Yadav accused the Prime Minister of taking false credit for the opening of AIIMS in Darbhanga and claimed that the Centre did not approve the construction despite the Bihar government providing land and funds for land filling. Yadav also mentioned that he had spoken to the Union health minister and written a letter, but no positive action was taken.

In response, Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya stated that the Modi government does not engage in politics over development but focuses on the politics of development. He clarified that the Centre had approved the construction of AIIMS Darbhanga in September 2020, and the Bihar government allocated land in November 2021. However, the land was changed by the Bihar government in April 2023 for political reasons. The Centre deemed the new plot unsuitable for construction and requested the Bihar government to provide an alternative site.

A letter from the health secretary mentioned the potential disadvantages of the alternate site, making the project execution complex. Mandaviya questioned the reasons behind the plot change and urged Yadav to rise above politics and allocate suitable land for AIIMS construction. He emphasized the Centre’s readiness to build AIIMS in Bihar.
