New Delhi to Crack Down on Private PG Operators Ignoring Building Rules
New Delhi ★The local authorities in New Delhi are set to tighten their crackdown on private PG operators who are disregarding building rules in the city. The survey of PGs in all wards of the Civil Line Zone of the Corporation began on Thursday.
The corporation has stated that action will be taken against those who fail to comply with the rules, do not possess a fire NOC, and operate PGs illegally. Both private and commercial property owners are required to adhere to the building rules guidelines. Private PGs and coaching centers operating commercially must obtain a fire NOC by following the building rules. The Delhi Municipal Corporation will also investigate those conducting commercial activities on private and residential properties without informing the authorities. Following the survey in the Civil Line Zone, the inspection will be extended to the entire city of Delhi.
A fire broke out in a residential building in a colony in Mukherjee Nagar on Wednesday, originating from the electricity meter. The corporation’s team promptly arrived at the scene and conducted rescue operations. The fire started in the electric meter area, where several pieces of old furniture were stored. It was discovered that around 10 to 12 girls were residing in the PG, with 7 to 8 girls present during the incident. Three girls were trapped and suffered from suffocation due to the fire.
Coaching Centers Face Closure without Fire NOC
In line with the enforcement of building rules, the corporation has conducted a survey of properties throughout Delhi. Notices have been issued to those who are not complying with the regulations and those who do not possess a fire NOC. Over 500 coaching centers have received notices, and an investigation is underway to determine how many centers have obtained a fire NOC. Those who have failed to obtain the necessary NOC will be served resealing notices. Failure to obtain the NOC within the specified time will result in the closure of these centers.
More than 250 coaching institutions are present in the Civil Line Zone alone.
A senior corporation officer revealed that there are over 250 coaching centers in Mukherjee Nagar and approximately 400 in the Civil Line Zone. All these establishments are currently under investigation. Notices are being issued to seal coaching centers that have failed to comply with the guidelines outlined in the Integrated Building Bye-Laws and do not possess a fire NOC. Actions have already been taken against nearly 20 coaching institutes in Mukherjee Nagar for not having a fire alarm, and notices have been issued to seal 80 coaching centers.
