New Delhi: Delhi Government Suspends Officer Accused of Rape
The Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s government has ordered the suspension of a women and child development officer who has been accused of rape. The government has also directed the Chief Secretary to submit a report on the matter by 5 pm. Strict action is expected to be taken against the accused.
Accused Officer Faces Serious Charges
A case has been registered against the accused officer under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the POCSO Act. However, the officer has not been arrested yet. The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chairperson, Swati Maliwal, has issued a notice to the Delhi Police, urging them to promptly arrest the accused. Maliwal emphasized the seriousness of the allegation and raised concerns about the safety of the women and girls in Delhi.
Allegations of Prolonged Abuse
According to a Delhi Police official, the accused officer allegedly raped a teenage girl multiple times between November 2020 and January 2021. Shockingly, the accused officer, who was working in the Delhi government, is accused of raping the minor daughter of his deceased friend over several months. Additionally, the officer’s wife is also alleged to have administered medication to terminate the victim’s pregnancy. The Delhi government has called for strict action to be taken against the accused officer if found guilty.
DCW Issues Notice to Delhi Police
The Chairperson of the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW), Swati Maliwal, has issued a notice to the Delhi Police, demanding immediate action. Maliwal questioned why the accused officer has not been arrested yet, considering his role was to protect the welfare of women and children. The DCW is also seeking information from the government about any previous complaints against the accused officer and the actions taken in response.
DCW Urges Prompt Arrest of Accused Officer
In the notice, Swati Maliwal, the Chairperson of the DCW, highlighted the serious allegations of sexual exploitation against the accused officer. She expressed concern over the delay in his arrest and questioned where the girls should go if those responsible for their protection become predators. The DCW has called for the immediate arrest of the accused officer by the Delhi Police.
