NEW DELHI: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his lack of attention towards the situation in Manipur and questioned why he had not visited the troubled state. Speaking to party workers in his parliamentary constituency of Wayanad, Rahul accused Modi of only spending two minutes discussing Manipur during his over two-hour long speech in the Lok Sabha. Rahul highlighted the violence and unrest in Manipur, including murders and rapes, and criticized the Prime Minister for not taking a stronger stand against it. He also accused Modi of disrespecting the idea of India and questioned his nationalism. Rahul shared his own experience of visiting Manipur and expressed shock at the extent of suffering and violence in the state. He blamed the BJP and RSS for not understanding the importance of unity and accused them of “burning Manipur”. Rahul assured the people of Manipur that the Congress would bring back love and restore peace in the state. Earlier in the day, Rahul received a warm welcome from Congress workers in Wayanad. He was recently reinstated as the MP from Wayanad after the Supreme Court stayed his conviction in a defamation case. He also regained possession of his bungalow in Delhi following the court’s decision.
