Paracetamol and other essential medicines will now be available at cheaper prices in India following amendments to the list of essential medicines. One tablet of paracetamol will be available for 89 paise, and metformin for diabetes type-2 will be available for two rupees. The National Drug Prescribing Authority (NPPA) claims that there has been a decline of up to 17% in respect of essential drugs, with over 200 medicines seeing a reduction in price. The government reviews the order every year, and the list of essential medicines was revised in November 2022.
