- The Delhi Police is almost done with its investigation in the FIR cases registered against former Wrestling Federation of India President and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Singh.
- The police is now preparing the final report, and there could be a big disclosure in this matter soon.
Brij Bhushan Singh has been facing allegations of sexual abuse by a female wrestler. The Wrestling Federation of India, which is currently headed by Brij Bhushan’s brother, had earlier set up a committee to look into the matter. However, the wrestler had accused the committee of being biased towards Brij Bhushan and not conducting a fair investigation.
Following this, the wrestler had filed an FIR against Brij Bhushan, accusing him of sexual abuse. The Delhi Police had registered a case against him in October last year based on her complaint. Since then, the police have been investigating the matter.
The police have reportedly recorded statements of four witnesses in the case so far. It is being said that the police may soon file a charge sheet against Brij Bhushan based on their investigation.
Brij Bhushan, who has denied the allegations, had earlier said that he was ready to face any inquiry and that the truth would come out soon. However, he has been maintaining a low profile since the FIR was lodged against him.
The case has garnered a lot of attention, given Brij Bhushan’s political and sports background. He has been associated with the Wrestling Federation of India for over two decades and has also served as its President twice. He is currently a Member of Parliament from the Kaiserganj constituency in Uttar Pradesh.
The case has also raised questions about the way sports bodies in India deal with allegations of sexual abuse and harassment. Many athletes have accused such bodies of not taking their complaints seriously and protecting the accused.
