In a significant relief to consumers, onion prices have witnessed a steady decline in the wholesale vegetable markets. This Sunday marked a notable decrease, with prices plummeting by 5 rupees per kilogram. The Indian National Consumer Cooperative Federation has played a pivotal role in this drop by deploying mobile vans at 20 different locations for the sale of onions.
Queues for Quality: Citizens Line Up for Affordable Onions
The impact was visible in areas like Sarojini Nagar, where long queues formed in front of the Bima Hospital and Bangla Bazaar, as people waited to purchase the affordable vegetable. The wholesale market price for onions has now settled between 45 to 50 rupees per kilogram, a significant reduction attributed to the government’s intervention. However, retail prices are still hovering around 60 to 70 rupees per kilogram, with expectations of a further decrease in the coming week.
