Tata Motors has reintroduced the Nexon EV with a more powerful battery, priced at ₹13.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The new variant is available in three different trims, with the top-end Empowered+ trim priced at ₹16.99 lakh (ex-showroom). Alongside the improved battery, Tata has also introduced a new Red Dark Edition of the Nexon EV, priced at ₹17.19 lakh (ex-showroom).
Key Features of the New Nexon EV
Tata has enhanced the Nexon EV by offering a larger 45kWh battery pack in the entry-level Creative trim, making it ₹60,000 cheaper than the 40.5kWh variant, which starts from the Fearless trim. This upgrade gives the Nexon EV a longer range and more power, making it a strong contender in the electric vehicle market.
Improved Battery and Range
The company claims that the 45kWh battery pack delivers an ARAI-certified range of 489 kilometers, which is 24 kilometers more than the previous 40.5kWh variant. In real-world conditions, Tata says the car provides a C75 cycle range of approximately 350-370 kilometers.
With the larger battery, the Nexon EV produces 145hp of power and 215Nm of torque, ensuring a smooth and powerful ride. Despite the increased battery capacity, the new battery pack occupies the same space as the 40.5kWh unit but generates 15% more energy.
Charging and Performance
The new 45kWh battery takes 48 minutes to charge from 10% to 80%, while the smaller 40.5kWh battery takes 56 minutes to achieve the same charge. Despite the larger battery, there is only a slight increase in the car’s overall weight, maintaining the car’s balance and performance.
Tata Motors is confident that the Nexon EV will achieve a 5-star safety rating in the BNCAP crash tests due to its robust design and safety features.
