The Regional Transport Office (RTO) is set to introduce new traffic rules starting June 1, 2024. These rules will impose hefty fines for speeding and underage driving, aiming to enhance road safety.

🔒 Heavy Fines for Traffic Violations

  1. Speeding Fines:
    • Driving at high speeds will attract fines ranging from ₹1,000 to ₹2,000.
  2. Fines for Underage Driving:
    • A significant penalty of ₹25,000 will be imposed if a minor is caught driving. Additionally, the vehicle owner’s driving license may be revoked, and the minor will be barred from obtaining a license until they turn 25 years old.

 

🚦 Mandatory Driving License

  • Strict Enforcement: According to media reports, having a driving license while driving is now mandatory. If caught without one, a fine of ₹500 will be imposed.

 

🪖 Other Penalties

  1. No Helmet:
    • A fine of ₹100 for not wearing a helmet while riding a two-wheeler.
  2. No Seat Belt:
    • A fine of ₹100 for not wearing a seat belt while driving.

 

🧑‍🦱 Underage Driving Specifics

  • Age Requirements:
    • Minors under 18 driving a vehicle will face a fine of ₹25,000.
    • The vehicle owner’s license may be canceled.
    • Minors will be ineligible for a driving license until 25 years of age.

 

  • License Eligibility:
    • A driving license is issued at 18 years of age.
    • At 16, a minor can obtain a license to drive a motorcycle with a capacity of up to 50cc, which can be updated at 18.
