The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared monkeypox a global health emergency, prompting governments worldwide to ramp up their preparedness efforts. In India, new guidelines are being prepared, which may include quarantine measures similar to those enforced during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Ministry of Health’s Response
India’s Ministry of Health has assured the public that the risk of a significant monkeypox outbreak in the country is very low, and there is no need for panic. However, the ministry is taking steps to ensure the country is well-prepared to deal with any potential cases.
Health Ministry’s Plans and Recommendations
According to official sources, Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda is expected to hold a crucial meeting with officials from the Ministry of Health, the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), and the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) soon. The meeting will focus on discussing the necessary measures and preparations to tackle monkeypox effectively.
Increased Vigilance and Guidelines
The Ministry of Health is also planning to issue new guidelines to increase vigilance at airports, seaports, and other points of entry into the country. These guidelines may include clear instructions on quarantine and treatment procedures to minimize the risk of the infection spreading.
