LPG Cylinder Prices Reduced by Rs 200 for Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana Beneficiaries
The central government has announced a reduction in the prices of domestic LPG cylinders by Rs 200. This decision was approved by the cabinet on Tuesday, according to media reports. However, the benefit of this price reduction will only be applicable to the beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana.
Previous Price Reduction and Current Prices
In August 1, government oil companies had already reduced the price of commercial LPG cylinders by Rs 100. As a result, the price of LPG cylinders in Delhi increased to Rs 1,680. In other cities, it is being sold for Rs 1,802.50 in Kolkata, Rs 1,640.50 in Mumbai, and Rs 1,852.50 in Chennai.
Ujjwala Scheme and Subsidy
The Ujjwala scheme has provided over 9.5 crore LPG connections across the country. However, since June 2020, most people have not been receiving subsidies on LPG cylinders. Now, only those who have received cylinders under the Ujjwala scheme will be eligible for subsidies. The government allocates approximately Rs 6,100 crore for this purpose. In June 2020, a non-subsidized cylinder was priced at Rs 593 in Delhi, which has now increased to Rs 1,103.
