Maruti Suzuki, already dominant in the 7-seater MPV segment with the Ertiga, is now aiming to capture a wider audience with an even more affordable offering. This new entry-level MPV, internally known as the YDB, is set to compete directly with the Renault Triber and is expected to start from an attractive price point of ₹6 lakhs.

The YDB MPV is based on the Suzuki Spacia, a popular Japanese model. However, the Indian version will be longer, though still under 4 meters to benefit from tax advantages. While the Spacia boasts sliding doors for the second row, Maruti will exclude this feature to maintain the affordability of the YDB. However, they might explore using the cost-effective sliding door mechanism from the Eeco in the future.

The YDB is designed with a tall stance to maximize headroom and interior space, ensuring comfortable accommodation for seven passengers. Inside, the MPV is expected to share design elements with other recent Maruti models, featuring a modern and familiar aesthetic.

  • New Entry-Level MPV: Maruti Suzuki is developing a new 7-seater MPV codenamed “YDB.”
  • Affordable Pricing: Expected to start from ₹6 lakhs, making it more budget-friendly than the Ertiga.
  • Based on Suzuki Spacia: The design is inspired by the Suzuki Spacia but will be longer and under 4 meters.

  • Sliding Doors Omitted: To keep costs down, the sliding doors of the Spacia will not be included.
  • Tall Stance and Spacious Interior: Designed to offer ample headroom and interior space.
  • Interior Design: Expected to resemble current Maruti models like Fronx, Baleno, Brezza, and the new Swift.
  • Engine: Likely to feature the 1.2 L 3-cylinder petrol engine with manual and automatic transmission options.

  • Fuel Efficiency: Expected to deliver around 23-25 kmpl, with a CNG option also likely.
  • Features: May include a 9-inch infotainment system, wireless charging, 2nd-row AC, LED lights, 360-degree camera, and 6 airbags.

  • Launch Timeline: Expected to launch in 2026, after the 7-seater Grand Vitara-based SUV and the eVX electric SUV.
  • Positioning: Will be positioned below the Ertiga and XL6 in Maruti’s lineup.

Under the hood, the YDB will likely be powered by the tried-and-tested 1.2 L 3-cylinder petrol engine, delivering a balance of performance and fuel efficiency. The engine is expected to be paired with both 5-speed manual and automatic transmission options. Additionally, a CNG variant is likely to be offered, catering to eco-conscious buyers.

Despite its affordability, the YDB is rumored to be packed with features, potentially including a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless charging, dedicated AC vents for the second row, LED lighting, a 360-degree camera for enhanced parking convenience, and a comprehensive set of 6 airbags for safety.

However, it’s important to note that the YDB is still in the early stages of development. Maruti Suzuki has a few other launches planned before this model, including a 7-seater SUV based on the Grand Vitara and the company’s first electric SUV, the eVX.
