Madhya Pradesh Government Deposits Rs 1,000 in 1.25 Crore Women’s Bank Accounts Under Ladli Bahna Yojana
The Madhya Pradesh government has taken a significant step towards women’s empowerment by depositing the first installment of Rs 1,000 in the bank accounts of 1.25 crore women of the state under its flagship scheme ‘Ladli Bahna Yojana’. The ruling BJP’s move is being touted as a game-changer ahead of the state assembly elections later this year. State Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has urged women to celebrate the evening of June 10 when the money will be credited to their accounts and to light a lamp in their houses.
Money Will Not Be Deposited in the Accounts of Women Who Do Not Meet Certain Criteria
Under the Ladli Bahna Yojana, women aged between 23 years and 60 years will receive Rs 1,000 per month subject to certain conditions. These conditions include not being an income tax payer and having an annual family income of less than Rs 2.50 lakh. Women who do not meet these criteria will not receive any money in their accounts.
Highlights of the Scheme
Beneficiaries can withdraw money from their bank accounts from the next day after the money is credited.
The scheme will enable the BJP government in Madhya Pradesh to reach out to half of the state’s 2.6 crore women voters.
In at least 18 out of 230 assembly constituencies in the state, the number of female voters is higher than that of male voters. These areas include tribal-dominated Balaghat, Mandla, Dindori, Alirajpur, and Jhabua districts.
The scheme has a provision of Rs 8,000 crore in the Madhya Pradesh budget. Women who wish to avail of the scheme submitted their forms from March 15 to April 30.
After scrutiny, the government has prepared the final list of beneficiaries who will receive the first amount of Rs 1,000 in their bank accounts on June 10.
Madhya Pradesh has recorded an increase of 2.79% in the number of new women voters, while it is 2.30% for male voters. Out of 13.39 lakh new voters, 7.07 lakh are women, according to official records.
