During this period, 5384 drivers were caught for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Delhi Traffic Police is continuously active in view of road accidents happening at night.

After this, Shahdara area remains at number two, while in the year 2022, the maximum number of cases were caught for drunken driving in Rajouri Garden area of West Delhi throughout the year. The traffic police has started taking tough steps to nab those driving under the influence of alcohol. This is the reason that in the first three months of this year, the number of people caught driving under the influence of alcohol reached 5384. Whereas in the first three months of the year 2022, this number was only 399 and in the year 2021 only 286.

A Delhi Traffic Police official said that the main objective of the traffic police crackdown on drunk driving is to protect road users, especially at night. Police believe that one of the main reasons for road accidents at night is drunken driving.

Campaign runs from 9 to 12 midnight

According to the traffic police officials, Drunken driving campaign is conducted every night from 9 am to 12 midnight by the traffic police to arrest the drunken drivers. There are 67 circles of traffic police. Three pickets of Drunken Driving campaign are installed in every circle. This is the reason why in the first three months of the year 2023, the maximum number of drunken drivers have been caught so far. Police officials say that this campaign is being run since the beginning of the year on the orders of SS Yadav, Special Commissioner of Traffic Police.

Responsibility to follow the rules

Special Police Commissioner of Delhi Traffic Police SS Yadav says that it is the responsibility of the police to follow the traffic rules. Road accidents at night are caused by drunken drivers. He informed that apart from taking action against the violators, road safety awareness camps for all sections of the society are organized by the Delhi Traffic Police from time to time at schools, colleges and major intersections etc. Short films, lectures and literature on safe driving are also distributed. Street plays are performed at the crossroads.
