NEW DELHI: After an 11-month break due to injury, India’s premier fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah achieved a remarkable feat in the second T20I against Ireland on Sunday.
Jasprit Bumrah makes a triumphant comeback
While leading the T20I side in the absence of Hardik Pandya, Bumrah played a pivotal role in securing an unassailable 2-0 series lead against Ireland. India defeated Ireland by 33 runs in the second T20I.
Bumrah’s exceptional performance
In the course of the match, the 29-year-old paceman bowled a total of 4 overs and managed to claim 2 wickets, including one maiden over.
Bumrah’s milestone
During the final over of the match, Bumrah had to defend 37 runs. He bowled a wicket-maiden over, with the final ball resulting in four leg byes. This marked Bumrah’s 10th maiden over in T20I cricket. With this achievement, he now shares the second spot for the most maiden overs in the history of men’s T20I cricket, alongside his teammate Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Both Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar have recorded 10 maiden overs in their respective T20I careers. The top spot in this list is held by Uganda’s spinner Frank Nsubuga, who has bowled a total of 15 maiden overs over the course of his T20I career.
Bumrah’s reaction
“I am feeling good. Today was a little drier. We thought it would get slower and hence batted first. It is very pleasing. It is tough to pick an XI. Great headache to have. Everyone is eager. Everyone is confident. All of us wanted to play for India. Eventually, everyone has to work their way up,” Bumrah said after the match.
Looking ahead
Bumrah emphasized the importance of not playing under the burden of expectations. “If you play with a baggage of expectation, you are under pressure. You have to keep those expectations aside. You are not doing yourself 100 percent justice if you are playing with so many expectations,” he said.
