ISRO Provides Update on Chandrayaan 3’s Pragyan Rover
The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) shared a fresh update on Chandrayaan 3’s Pragyan Rover. The rover, named Pragyan, is on a mission to uncover the secrets of the Moon. Pragyan and its companion, the Vikram Lander, are in good health and are in touch. ISRO’s official X handle posted a message from Pragyan, stating that the best is coming soon.
Earlier this week, the Pragyan rover encountered a four-meter diameter crater on the moon’s surface. It was then commanded to retrace its path. ISRO posted on X that the rover was following this command. This development came after the first observation from Chandra’s Surface Thermophysical Experiment (ChaSTE) payload on the Vikram lander was released by ISRO.
The ChaSTE measures the temperature profile of the lunar topsoil around the pole to understand the thermal behavior of the Moon’s surface. Equipped with a temperature probe and 10 individual temperature sensors, the ChaSTE can penetrate up to 10 cm beneath the surface.
On August 26, ISRO announced that the Pragyan rover was exploring the South Pole region of the Moon, specifically the area known as ‘Shiv Shakti Point.’ Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had named the touchdown point of Chandrayaan 3’s Vikram lander as ‘Shiv Shakti.’
Prime Minister Modi expressed his pride in India’s innovative and unique approach to space exploration. He stated that India goes to dark zones and illuminates the world by spreading light. The ISRO Telemetry Tracking and Command Network Mission Control Complex in Bengaluru was the venue for Modi’s announcement.
