Launch of Bharat NCAP:
Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has launched the long-awaited Bharat NCAP.
The program will be implemented across the country by October 2023.
India has become the fifth country to conduct car crash tests, joining the ranks of America, China, Japan, and South Korea.
Benefits of Bharat NCAP:
- The launch of Bharat NCAP will help increase awareness about the safety standards of vehicles up to 3500 kg.
- It will boost the reputation of Make in India vehicles globally and lead to increased vehicle exports.
- The program aims to reduce road accidents and their associated losses in the country.
- Car manufacturers such as Maruti, Hyundai, Mahindra, Tata, and Toyota have praised the government’s initiative for the domestic auto market and industry.
- Automobile companies in India can now test vehicles under the Automotive Industry Standards (AIS) 197 to obtain safety scores.
- NCAP can assess the safety features of vehicles from any showroom in the country to ensure complete security.
- Only after passing the safety tests, vehicles will be given adult and child safety ratings by NCAP.
