The demand for CNG cars in the Indian market is rapidly increasing. Although CNG vehicles are more expensive than petrol vehicles, they offer better mileage and cost savings in the long run due to lower fuel prices.

Recognizing this trend, Honda Cars has introduced CNG kits at their dealerships, allowing customers to retrofit any Honda car with these kits. Honda’s portfolio includes models such as the City, Amaze, and Elevate. However, it is noteworthy that Honda is not offering factory-fitted CNG kits.

Cost of Installing the CNG Kit

  • Installation Cost: The cost to install a CNG kit in any Honda car at their dealership is ₹78,000.
  • Warranty: Honda offers a one-year warranty on the CNG kit. Additionally, the car’s three-year warranty remains intact.
  • Models: The CNG kit can be installed in manual and automatic variants of the City, Amaze, and Elevate.

Details of the CNG Kit

Honda dealerships are fitting these cars with Lovato’s CNG kit, which includes a 60-liter CNG tank. The CNG level indicator is placed next to the USB port in the center console.

However, fitting the 60-liter CNG cylinder reduces the boot space. While specific mileage improvements with the CNG kit have not been disclosed, it is estimated that a Honda car with a 1.2-liter petrol engine could achieve up to 25 km/l with the CNG kit.

Honda’s Market Performance

Honda India has released its sales figures for May 2024, showing a total of 11,343 units sold. In comparison, the company sold 5,247 cars in May 2023.

However, it’s important to note that more than 6,500 of the cars sold in May 2024 were exported, including the Elevate SUV, which is manufactured in India and sold in Japan under the WR-V name.
