Goa-Mumbai Vande Bharat Express Launch Cancelled After Odisha Train Accident

In light of the recent train accident in Odisha, the launch ceremony of the Goa-Mumbai Vande Bharat Express has been cancelled. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was scheduled to flag off the train through video conference on June 3, while Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav was set to attend the ceremony at Madgaon station. Railway officials have confirmed the cancellation of the event. Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has also reviewed the situation of the train accident in Balasore.

238 Killed in Odisha Train Accident

According to South Eastern Railway officials, 238 people have died in the recent train accident in Odisha, and approximately 650 injured passengers have been admitted to hospitals in Gopalpur, Khantapara, Balasore, Bhadrak, and Soro. The Chief Secretary of Odisha, Pradeep Jena, has stated that seven teams of NDRF, five teams of ODRAF, 24 teams of fire department, and local police are currently engaged in relief and rescue work on the spot. Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has visited the accident site and assessed the situation by speaking to officials present on the spot and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav.

Vande Bharat Express to Reach Every State by June 15

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav had earlier announced that every state in the country will be connected by Vande Bharat trains by June 15, 2023. The launch of the Goa-Mumbai Vande Bharat Express was set to improve communication between the two cities and provide speedy and comfortable travel to the people of the region. The Vande Bharat Express is a state-of-the-art train that is in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Make in India’ and Atmanirbhar Bharat.
