Expansion: Wrestlers Accuse Brij Bhushan Singh of Sexual Exploitation
Two FIRs have been filed against BJP MP and former Wrestling Federation of India President, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, alleging sexual exploitation. Both FIRs were registered at Delhi’s Connaught Place police station on 28 April. The wrestlers have made several serious allegations, including touching obscenely, rubbing hands on the chest, and asking them to have a relationship. The FIRs also allege that Singh called female wrestlers to his room.
Singh, who is also a sitting member of parliament, has denied the allegations. He said that the accusations were politically motivated and that he would take legal action against the complainants. The Wrestling Federation of India has also released a statement, saying that they would investigate the allegations.
Singh has been the president of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) since 2009. He was also a Member of Parliament from Kaiserganj in Uttar Pradesh. In 2018, Singh was appointed as the chairman of the organizing committee for the Commonwealth Games.
The allegations against Singh come at a time when the country is grappling with a wave of sexual harassment and assault cases. The #MeToo movement, which gained momentum in India in 2018, has led to several high-profile cases of sexual harassment and assault being reported. However, many cases go unreported due to fear of retaliation, stigmatization, and victim-blaming.
The Wrestling Federation of India has promised to take appropriate action if the allegations are found to be true. The case has been forwarded to the Delhi Police’s Crime Branch for further investigation.
In conclusion, the allegations of sexual exploitation against Brij Bhushan Singh are serious, and if found to be true, the accused must be held accountable. It is essential to create a safe and respectful environment for women in all spheres of society. The #MeToo movement has shown that it is crucial to speak up against sexual harassment and assault, and we must all do our part to ensure that such behavior is not tolerated.
