Toyota is gearing up to launch a new variant of the Fortuner in India later this year, equipped with Mild-Hybrid technology. This upgrade is aimed at enhancing fuel efficiency and reducing carbon emissions, while also introducing several new features. Here’s a comprehensive breakdown of all the available information:

Key Highlights of the New Fortuner Variant

  • Introduction of Mild-Hybrid Technology: Toyota recently unveiled the new Fortuner in South Africa, based on the Legender model from India. This updated version features a Mild-Hybrid System along with several additional upgrades. According to dealer sources, Toyota plans to introduce this variant with Mild-Hybrid technology in India by the end of the year.

  • Enhanced Fuel Efficiency and Reduced Emissions: The Mild-Hybrid technology offers several benefits, including improved fuel efficiency by seamlessly integrating electric power during acceleration. This leads to reduced emissions, promoting environmental sustainability.

Powertrain and Performance

The new variant will be powered by a 2.8 L Diesel engine paired with a 48V mild-hybrid system. This hybrid setup is expected to contribute an additional 15.7 BHP and 42 NM, resulting in a combined power output of 201 BHP and 500 NM of torque. The Petrol engine, however, is expected to remain unchanged.

Anticipated Improvements

Toyota has claimed a 5% improvement in fuel efficiency for the South African Fortuner, so a similar improvement can be expected for the Indian version. Additionally, Toyota may introduce a new Idle Start/Stop Feature for improved throttle response and smoother engine performance.

New Features to Look Out For

  • 360 Surround View Camera: This feature will provide a comprehensive view of the surroundings, enhancing safety and ease of parking.

  • Toyota Safety Sense ADAS Suite: The Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) suite is expected to include features like adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, and automatic emergency braking, enhancing overall safety.

  • Idle Start/Stop Feature: This feature aims to improve throttle response and provide smoother engine performance, contributing to better fuel efficiency.
