Metro passengers can now book tickets through the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Limited (IRCTC) website and mobile app. This new feature will make it easier for railway passengers to travel by metro. Let’s dive into the details.

Enhanced Convenience:

To implement this new feature, IRCTC, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), and the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS) have entered into an agreement. Officials believe this step will promote the Indian government’s ‘One India-One Ticket’ initiative.

QR Code-Based Ticket Booking:

Delhi Metro has launched the “beta version” of QR code-based tickets. Passengers can now book DMRC QR code tickets on the IRCTC website and the Android version of the mobile app.

Regular Version Coming Soon:

IRCTC CMD Sanjay Kumar Jain and DMRC MD Dr. Vikas Kumar stated that following the success of the beta version, the regular version of the QR code tickets will be launched soon. Currently, single journey metro tickets can only be booked on the day of travel.

Advance Booking Up to 120 Days:

Once the DMRC-IRCTC QR code-based ticketing system is fully implemented, passengers will be able to book metro tickets up to 120 days in advance, similar to reserved railway tickets. Passengers can also book metro tickets through the booking history page, and ticket cancellation will be possible.

If a passenger books a ticket via the website or app, the IRCTC electronic reservation slip will include a DMRC QR code for each passenger. This step will save valuable time for passengers at DMRC stations, as they will no longer need to stand in long lines to purchase metro tickets.
