New Delhi Mayor Dr. Shaili Oberoi Receives Political Approval to Travel Abroad
Political Approval Granted for Mayor’s Trip
Delhi Mayor Dr. Shaili Oberoi has received the necessary political approval to travel abroad, as confirmed by her to the Delhi High Court on Wednesday. This comes after she approached the court earlier this week, challenging the delay in obtaining political approval to participate in the Asia Pacific Cities Summit 2023 in Brisbane, Australia. Advocate Gautam Narayan, representing Oberoi, informed the court that the Ministry of External Affairs granted permission after the petition was filed.
Delhi High Court Disposes of the Petition
The central government standing counsel, Kirtiman Singh, opposed the plea, arguing that permission was granted after the petition was filed. However, Justice Subramaniam Prasad dismissed this argument, stating that it was irrelevant since the issue raised in the petition had already been resolved. Consequently, the court disposed of the petition. Oberoi had approached the High Court against the central government’s delay in making a decision on granting her political approval for the trip. She had submitted a proposal to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi Commissioner on June 15, which was subsequently forwarded to various authorities before reaching the Ministry of External Affairs.
Immediate Hearing Requested
Oberoi’s lawyer emphasized the urgency of the matter, as the Mayor is scheduled to travel on October 9. The petition states that Oberoi had followed the proper procedures to request permission to participate in the Asia Pacific Cities Summit-2023 in Brisbane, which is scheduled for October 11 to October 13 this year.
