**Delhi Government Directed to Stop Engagement of Staff Appointed Without Approval of LG**
– The Services Department of the Delhi Government has issued an order directing all government departments to immediately stop engagement of staff appointed as fellows, associate fellows, and advisors without the approval of the Lieutenant Governor (LG).
– The order states that reservation policies were not followed in these appointments and that they will significantly impact the functioning of the Delhi Government and its services.
– Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal criticized the move and expressed hope that the Supreme Court will quash it.
– Over 400 “private persons” have been engaged by the Delhi Government and the Legislative Assembly, including 140 fellows and associate fellows in the Delhi Assembly.
– Other departments such as the Delhi Transport Corporation, Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation, Delhi Agricultural Marketing Board, and the Department of Environment have also made appointments without LG’s approval.
– Raj Niwas officials claim that these appointments are irregular and were made without obtaining approval from the LG’s office.
– The appointed staff were brought in to provide expertise and support in policy suggestions, scientific inputs, and framing in specialized areas.
– The tussle between the Delhi Government and the LG arises from an ordinance passed by the Centre, which gives the LG control over the Services Department.
– The AAP government has challenged the ordinance in the Supreme Court.
